DEWITT — Nancy C. Joy, 82, of DeWitt, died Friday at Wesley Acres, Des Moines.
Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
She was born March 7, 1924, in Decatur, Ill. She married Rodney Warren Joy on April 16, 1955, in Davenport. He died in 1966. She lived in DeWitt until moving to Des Moines in 1999.
She graduated from St. Katherine’s High School, Davenport, in 1942. She attended Monticello Junior College in Alton, Ill., and graduated from Beloit College in 1946.
She worked with James H. Copeland Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance, Davenport, and then with Dr. Paul Barton as a dental assistant.
She was an active member of the DeWitt community and was affiliated with DeWitt United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Delta Gamma, Chapter BG PEO, DeWitt, where she was a 60-year member; co-chairwoman of the Clinton Republican Party for more than 20 years; Rainbow mother advisor; American Legion Auxiliary; Order of the Eastern Star; Girl Scout leader; hospital auxiliary board where she was active with mobile meals and the United Way. She also served in various offices in these organizations. She also was a delegate with the National Republican Party Convention in 1980 and was Iowa Rainbow Advisor Mother of the Year.
Survivors include two daughters, Patty (Wayne) Price of Des Moines and Margie (Keith) Woodward of Ankeny; two grandchildren; two sisters, Ginny (Kermit) Clingman of Bettendorf and Connie (Rollin) Lynn of Folsom, Calif.; and one brother, James (Marilyn) Copeland of Jefferson.
