Visitation: Was Sunday at Lahey Funeral Home, Oxford Junction, with a vigil service. There was an additional visitation today one hour before the service.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction, with the Rev. William Kneemiller officiating.

WHEATLAND — Esther A. Benischek, 83, of Wheatland and formerly of Oxford Junction, died Saturday at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.

Burial will be in Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction.

She was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Lowden to William A. and Ida Mae Luettjohn Ruchotzke.

She was a homemaker and farmed in Oxford Junction for 60 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society where she served as president. She also was a member of the ACCW, American Legion Auxiliary and president of the Parent-Teacher Association in Oxford Junction. She also served an office with the Archdiocese of Dubuque Deanery.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Zaruba of Cedar Rapids, Mary Jo Smiley of Anamosa and Beverly (Mark) Valerius of Davenport; two sons, Otto C. Benischek of Decatur, Ala., and Steven J. (Barbara) Benischek of Lost Nation; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sophie (Ralph) Thoene of Durant.

She was preceded in death by one son, two brothers, three sisters and two stepsisters.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church or the American Legion Post.
