James C. Pfeiffer

James C. Pfeiffer, 74, of Hesperia, CA formerly of Elgin passed away peacefully on January 10, 2007 in his home with his loving wife, family and friends surrounding him to comfort and assure him as he left this world.

He was born September 13, 1932 in Savanna, Illinois the son of Carl (Charles) and Marjorie (Deyo) Roche. Jim married Phoebe McDaniel on Christmas Eve, 1951 in Savanna and gained employment with the Milwaukee-Metra Rail Road. They moved to the Carpentersville, Elgin area where they lived and spent 42 years until Jim retired from Metra as a conductor on the Elgin-Chicago Commuter. He loved traveling, playing cards, singing, garage sales, telling jokes and stories. He often recalled his many great times with family, dear friends, coworkers and his passengers. In 1995, Jim and Phoebe retired to California where they enjoyed golfing and relaxing in the sun. Jim was grateful for the loving care and kindness, by his hospice nurses, which he was truly grateful.

Survivors include his loving wife, daughter Colleen Hawkinson of South Elgin, IL, endeared grandson Eric Nissen of Elgin, and his darling great-grandsons Brendan and Gage Hawkinson of West Dundee, IL. Also surviving are his beloved sisters, Charmion Ewing of Los Alamitos, CA, Judith Wilmarth of Leaf River, IL, Margo (Robert) Atherton of Morrison, IL and his friends and brother Fred (Lanee) Pfeiffer of Paris, IL. His endeared Aunt Ruth Lazio of Mt. Carroll, IL, cousins Verona Thompson of Cedar Rapids, IA and Harlan Lehner of Sebring, FL. Also surviving Jim were his many beloved nieces and nephews and many dear life long friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rebecca Cravatta-Crisci and baby sister Prisilla. Also his beloved friends and brother-in-laws Edward Mertz, Fredrick Ewing, and Eugene Wilmarth.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2007 from 4:00 PM-8:00PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Hospice, 12421 Hesperia Rd., Victorville, CA 92284.
