Janice Mae Hankemeier

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston, with the Revs. Gregory Geier and William Warhover officiating.

MILES — Janice Mae Hankemeier, 86, of Miles, died Sunday at Clover Ridge Assisted Living Center, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in Andrew Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 1, 1920, to William and Anna Haylock Wurster in Maquoketa. She married Marvin Hankemeier on Aug. 26, 1940, in Missouri. He died in 1996.

She graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1938 and later attended the nursing program at St. Ambrose College, Davenport.

She was a homemaker and farmed in the Miles area with her husband.

She was a lifetime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Miles Garden Club.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin Lee (Sara) Hankemeier and Steve (Bernadette) Hankemeier, both of Miles; one daughter, Marcia Ralston of Mechanicsville; one daughter in-law, Julie Christensen of Stanwood; one son-in-law, Robert Lomsdalen of DeWitt; one sister-in-law, Lois Wurster of Maquoketa; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.
