Clinton Daily Herald May 25, 1900 p. 6 On Thursday evening, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.T. Joyce, occurred the death of Mrs. Helen Gage, one of the oldest, most well known and deeply respected residents of Lyons. For a number of years Mrs. Gage had been in feeble health, and despite every effort which was made to prolong her life, she gradually grew worse. Her children, Mrs. Joyce, Mrs. Flournoy of Sioux City, and Jas. P. Gage, were all present at her deathbed, those living away having arrived several days ago, when her illness became critical, and it was known that the mother would soon be called away. The funeral will be held from the Joyce residence at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. Tower of the Lyons Congregational church officiating. The remains will rest at Oakland cemetery. Helen Julia Buck was born at Palermo, Ontario, on April 28, 1828. On February 27, 1858, she was united in marriage to James P. Gage, and soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Gage came to Lyons and made their home, the former engaging in the banking business. His death occurred seventeen years ago. Mrs. Gage was a member of the Congregational church, in which she was an earnest worker until her failing health interfered, compelling her to retire from her work. She had hosts of friends in Lyons and Clinton, and her death will be universally regretted. Dr. A. Buck of Palermo, a brother of the deceased, is here to attend the obsequies.
The Clinton Herald May 26, 1900 p. 6 Local News Notes Mr. and Mrs. Virtus Lund will arrive this evening from Chicago to attend the funeral of Mrs. Gage.
