The Clinton Morning Age Vol. 17 No. 129 Friday May 25, 1900 p. 3 Two daughters and a son weep today for a mother's death. Mrs. Helen Gage, relict of the late J.P. Gage, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.T. Joyce, last evening, rounding out a full life. For some time she had been in feeble health, to which the infirmities of advanced years were added, and rest in death came as a happy release, though friends and relatives are deeply overshadowed with sorrow's clud, and cannot see that reward has come to the loved mother and friend. Any noble minded woman exerts great influence over a community, outside of her home circle, and so it was with this woman who had lived in Lyons for many years past. Here she was best known and most beloved. Here she reared her children, here she laid to rest her husband, who was one of the foremost of his day, and here she spent the quiet years of the aftertime of life, beloved by a circle of strong friends, who ever retained for her admiration and respect. Here her children were gathered to see the life lamp go out and their best friend pass from life. Helen Julia Buck was born April 28, 1828, at Palermo, Ontario. On February 27, 1858, she was united in marriage to James P. Gage, soon after which they come to Lyons whre they made their home, he engaging in the banking business. She was a member of the Lyons Congregational church and was an ernest worker, until failing health interfered, in religious and charitable enterprises. Her husband preceded her to the great beyond by seventeen years. The surviving children are Mrs. W.T. Joyce, with whom she had made her home for the past three years; Mrs. C.A. Flournoy of Sioux City, and James P. Gage, all of whom were present at the last. She also leaves her brothers Wellington and Dr. A. Buck of Palermo, Ont., the latter of whom is also here. Her sister, Mrs. Lawrence of Milton, Ont., passed away five weeks ago, at the age of 82 years. Funeral services over the remains will be conducted at the Joyce residence at 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. Towner officiatiing. The remains will be laid to rest in Oakland cemetery.
