CROAKE, HOLLERAN, RIES, COLEMAN

The Clinton Herald Friday June 5, 1936 p. 5 William Croake,Sr., 86, a pioneer and highly respected resident of Clinton, died at 9:15 o'clock last evening in his home, 428 Sixteenth avenue, South. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning in St. Mary's church with the Rt. Rev. T.F. Galligan, V.F. officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Mr. Croake was born March 22, 1850, in County Tipperary, Ireland, son of Edward and Anna Croake. He came to the United States about 1865 with his parents, locating in Toronto, Ont., Canada, and came to Clinton in 1867. Mr. Croake first was employed in the W.J. Young & Co. mills and later became an engineer on the North Western railway. Leaving the employ of the railroad he established himself in the restaurant business in the partnership of Croake and Crowley. He remained active until last winter when injured in a fall. Mr. Croake was the last member of his family, his parents and three brothers having preceded him in death. Mrs. Croake, the former Miss Bridget Holleran, of DeWitt, preceded him in death as also did three sons, Edward, James and George. He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Anna Dooley, Mrs. Mary Ries, Mrs. Thomas Coleman, Bridget and Julia Croake, three sons, Andrew, William C. and John, and four grandchildren, Artie and William Ries, Kathleen and William Coleman, all of Clinton. Mr. Croake was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Mary's church.
