The Clinton Herald Monday February 16, 1976 p. 10 Katherine McConnell, 95, died Sunday in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a former Clinton resident. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. in St. Irenaeus Church. The Rev. James Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Pape Funeral Home with a parish wake service at 7 p.m. She was born Jan. 9, 1881, in Lyons, the daughter of Jeremiah and Deborah Johnston McDonnell. She was a retired school teacher and member of St. Irenaeus Church and our Lady of Fatima Society. She also was a member of American Association of University Women, Esoteric Club of The University of Chicago, Iowa State Education Association and Iowa State Retired Teachers' Association. A graduate of the University of Chicago, she also studied at the University of Colorado and Columbia University, New York City. She taught in Clinton elementary and junior high schools until 1926, when she became principal of Longfellow School. She retired in 1949 from the Clinton Public School system and joined the faculty of St. Irenaeus School. She continued teaching until her retirement in 1963. Survivors include six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters.
