The Clinton Herald Charles S. "Hub" Wright, 87, formerly of Breezy Point Co-op, Clinton, died Friday at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at the First United Presbyterian Church in Clinton with the Rev. Horst Hehr officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zorning Funeral Homes and Crematory in Clinton. Interment will take place Thursday at Springdale Cemetery with military rites conducted by the AMVETS Post 28. Pallbearers will be Richard Wright, John Wright, Douglas Martin, Kenneth Haldeman, Charlie Armstrong, Chip Wright, Jonah Wright and Kevin Martin. He was born Nov. 3, 1912, to Charles and Myrtle Hawkins Wright in Tipton. His mother died when he was young and he was raised by his stepmother, Beatrice Wright. One Dec. 3, 1941, he married Katharine Armstrong in Clinton. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1935. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. During the war, he served as a transportation officer in Brisbane Australia, and received an honorable discharge as a lieutenant. He worked as vice president and a purchasing agent of C.E. Armstrong and Sons in Clinton, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the former Elks Club, a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 28, where he served on the board of directors. He was also a member of the Masons, the Shriners and of the Consistory. He was a member and past president of the Clinton Country Club, where he was also a charter member of the "29 Club," and a member of the Friends of the Library. His memberships also included past president of the Breezy Point Co-op, a member of the former Isaac Walton League, the First United Presbyterian Church in Clinton and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society as a driver. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Laurie (Douglas) Martin of Nevada and Mrs. Linda (Kenneth) Haldeman of Iowa City; two sons, Richard Wright of Iowa City and John Wright of Ann Arbor, Mich.; eight grandchildren; a niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother. Death date: Oct. 6, 2000.
