The Clinton Herald Katherine Jane Wright, 83, of No. 4 Breezy Point, Clinton, died Monday at Mercy North Hospital, Clinton. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Presbyterian Church, where a PEO service also will be conducted. The Rev. Connie Peake will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Clinton Chapel, Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Home and Crematory and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery, Clinton. Pallbearers will be Thomas Oakes, Charlie Armstrong, Jonah Wright, Kevin Martin, Doug Martin and Dan Jefferies. She was born April 25, 1918, in Clinton to Roscoe and Ruby Stone Armstrong. She married Charles Sumner Wright on Dec. 3, 1941, in Clinton. He died Oct. 6, 2000. She was a 1935 graduate of Clinton High School and a 1940 graduate of Northwestern University. She was a homemaker. After graduating from college she taught an experimental creative writing class in the Glencoe, Ill., Elementary School and she also attended the University of Iowa Graduate Writers Workshop in 1981. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church and PEO. She was a Mercy Auxiliary volunteer and was a member of Alpha Delphian Literary Society and the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She also was a member of the Clinton Country Club. Survivors include two daughters Mrs. Laurie (Douglas) Martin of Nevada and Linda Haldeman of Iowa City; two sons, Richard Wright of Iowa City and John Wright of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Death date: Dec. 24, 2001.
