F. Ray Hartson

Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, 3146 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, and an hour before services at Blessed Sacrament Church. There will be a 7 p.m. vigil service Sunday at the funeral home.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

WATERLOO — F. Ray Hartson, 86, of Waterloo and formerly of Cedar Falls, died Thursday at Covenant Medical Center.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

He was born May 9, 1920, in Clinton to Frederick R. and Ethel Grace Stowers Hartson. He married Mary Margaret Cunningham on June 28, 1947, in Clinton. She died in 1989.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in France.

He worked with Bausch and Lomb for 40 years and then with the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel for more than 20 years.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church serving as a cantor, as well as singing in the choir. He also was a member of Waterloo Elks 290, Cedar Falls AMVETS and UNI Athletic Club. He was a past member of the Clinton Lions Club. He was active in Troop 87 at Orchard Hill School, Cedar Falls, and chairman of the troop’s committee. He was past district commander and also served on the executive board of the Winnebago Council of Boy Scouts representing the council at many national meetings. He received the Silver Beaver Award and the St. George Award.

Survivors include one son, Thomas M. (Marcia) Hartson of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Mary Ann (Craig) Lee of Cedar Falls and Rita Rae (Wayne) Blaisdell of Clear Lake; one sister, Jean Alyea of Covington, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Church Choir or Winnebago Council B.S.A.
