Geraldine C. Spain

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Delmar, with the Rev. David Brownfield officiating.

DEWITT — Geraldine C. Spain, 90, of Delmar, died Sunday at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Delmar.

She was born May 5, 1916, in Villa Nova to John and Ella Laughlin McDonnell. She married Ambrose J. Spain on June 22, 1937, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Villa Nova. He died in 1985.

She attended Clinton County country schools and high school.

She and her husband farmed in the Delmar until 1985. In her early years, she taught in Clinton County rural schools.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Delmar, and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Determan of DeWitt, Patricia (Gene) Held of East Moline, Ill., and Diane (Mel) Seng of Davenport; four sons, Duane (Fran) Spain and Dean (Pam) Spain, both of Maquoketa, Alan Spain of Clinton and Dennis (Renee) Spain of DeWitt; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
