Charles R. “Cork” Tipp

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Jones, pastor of York Baptist Church, officiating.

SAVANNA, Ill. — Charles R. “Cork” Tipp, 78, of Savanna, died Saturday at the Quincy (Ill.) Veterans Home.

Burial will be in Savanna Township Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Savanna VFW.

He was born June 6, 1928, in Dubuque to Albert and Pheobe Sigafus Tipp.

He attended Savanna schools.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He a drove truck and hauled freight for 45 years before retiring from Heartland Express, Iowa City.

He was a lifetime member of Savanna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2223.

Survivors include three sons, Terry Tipp of Savanna, David (Diane) Tipp of Bettendorf and Charles (Jennifer) Tipp Jr. of Craig, Colo.; one sister, Stella Hatfield of Savanna; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
