Edward T. “Ed” Irwin

Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ruth Ann Scott officiating.

ANDREW — Edward T. “Ed” Irwin, 82, of rural Andrew, died Saturday at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in Andrew Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O’Connor-Regenwether and Andrew AMVETS Post 62.

He was born June 30, 1924, in Jackson County to Arthur E. and Elda L. Fuller Irwin. He married Kathleen JoAnn Budde on June 30, 1948, in Maquoketa.

He attended country schools in Perry Township through the eighth grade and graduated from Andrew High School in 1941.

He worked on his father’s farm until he served with the U.S. Army in March of 1945. He then served for 21/2 years, spending one of those in Okinawa and the other in the Ryukyus Islands.

He farmed on the family farm for many years.

He was commander of Maquoketa American Legion Post 75 and Andrew AMVETS Post 62. He also served as first vice commander of Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, in charge of the burial squad. He also was a member of Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O’Connor-Regenwether and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Maquoketa. He was a former member of Andrew AMVETS Post 62.

Survivors include his wife; children, Richard Irwin of Raymond, Wash., Barbara Ehl of Iowa City, Mary (Don) Kendrick of Rockland, Wis., Donna Borema of Summerville, S.C., David (Dory) Irwin of Lost Nation, Ronald (Ruth) Irwin of Andrew, Gary (Darlyn) Irwin of Preston and Lori (Dean) Margeson of Andrew; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

An Edward T. “Ed” Irwin Memorial Fund has been established.
