SAVANNA, Ill. — Frederick L. “Fred” Rath, 78, of rural Savanna, died Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll, Ill.
Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, rural Mount Carroll.
He was born Feb. 6, 1928, to Julius H. and Mary Schnitzler Rath in Washington Township. He married Joyce E. Imel on Feb. 8, 1953, at St. Peter’s parsonage, Savanna.
He graduated from Savanna High School in 1945.
He was a longtime member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and later Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the church council.
He served in the Korean War with the United States Army.
He farmed in Woodland and Washington townships and was a former director of the Carroll County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Keith (Dawn) Rath and Kurt (Becky) Rath, both of Savanna; two daughters, Kathy (Wayne) Becker of Mount Carroll and Kristine (Larry) Goss of Etna Green, Ind.; two brothers, Paul (Helen) Rath of Savanna and Joseph (Viola) Rath of Lanark, Ill.; one sister, Dr. Eunice Mary Rath of Lanark; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
