SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church, Andrew.
DELMAR — Shirley M. Barker, 72, of Delmar, died Thursday at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
She was born July 26, 1934, in Jackson County to Frank T. and Lydia L. Varner Miller Sr.
She was a 1951 graduate of Maquoketa High School.
She married Richard A. Schurbon on July 6, 1952, in Andrew. He died in 1976. She then married John Kifer in 1975 in Galena, Ill. She then married Robert “Bob” Barker Sr. on Nov. 20, 1982, in Andrew.
She worked various jobs, but most notably as a legal secretary with Raymond Sokol’s Law Office, Maquoketa, for 24 years.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Andrew, and the Buckhorn Club.
Survivors include her husband, Robert “Bob” Barker Sr. of Delmar; children, Steven Schurbon of Scottsdale, Ariz., Pamela (John) Knopf of Dubuque and Kathy (Bob) Bauer of Preston; stepchildren, Robert Barker Jr. of Urbandale, Darryl (Toni) Barker of West Des Moines and Kevin (Kari) Barker of Wilton; one sister, Maxine Heinrich of Maquoketa; one sister-in-law, Rosie Miller of Maquoketa; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven nieces and six nephews.
A Shirley M. Barker Memorial Fund has been established.
