Ronald J. Schau, 70, of Lost Nation died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport, following a lengthy illness.
A celebration of his life will be Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lost Nation, with the Rev. William Kneemiller officiating.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lost Nation, with military honors by the American Legion Menzo Widle Post #381, Lost Nation.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lost Nation where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are preferred. Lahey Funeral Cremation Services in Lost Nation is in charge of arrangements.
Ronald was born March 9, 1936 in DeWitt, Iowa, son of Peter and Marjorie (Freeman) Schau. He attended school in Welton, DeWitt and Calamus and graduated in 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1954 to 1956, as a mechanic in the Motorpool during the Korean Conflict. He married Ruth Hahn on June 25, 1955 at St. Philips & James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, Iowa.
Ronald farmed in the Canton area for 21 years and in Calamus and Grand Mound area for 15 years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the American Legion Menzo Widle Post #381, Lost Nation.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Schau, Lost Nation; one daughter, Julie DeMoss, Maquoketa; 3 sons, Dan Schau, Bennett, Jerry (Cindy) Schau, Monmouth and Steve (Annette) Schau, Anamosa; a son-in-law, Dan Claus, Delmar; 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; two brothers, Merlyn “Buck” Schau, Calamus and Lester (Phylis) Schau, DeWitt and a sister-in-law, Betty Schau, Calamus.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Claus on March 5, 2005, his parents, and a brother, Marvin Schau on September 16, 2006.
