Richard J. “Dick” Gannon

Richard J. “Dick” Gannon, 73, of Marion, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec 17, 2006 in Iowa City, after suffering a massive stroke on Tuesday Dec 12. Dick was born on the family farm in Delmar, Iowa and was the son of Leo and Deloras Gannon.

Dick graduated from Welton High School in 1952 and married Suzanne Klauer on February 14, 1957 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt.

Dick’s life was filled with his family and his life long vocation to farming. He operated the family farm until his retirement in 1999. He had a special fascination and love for dogs and draft horses.

Dick and his wife Susie moved to the Cedar Rapids area to be close to children and grandchildren, and was very active in attending basketball, track, dance, baseball, volleyball, and other of their sporting activities.

Dick’s was survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne, of 49 years. Dick’s family includes his children, Julie Kashuba of Sacramento, CA, Barb Gannon of Marion, Steve Gannon of Clear Lake, Peggy McCulloh of Cedar Rapids, Jeff Gannon of St. Louis, MO, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Dick is also survived by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 am. Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, December 19, from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, where a parish vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by a recitation of the rosary by the Knights of Columbus. Inurnment: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in DeWitt.

Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion or to New Melleray Abbey in Peosta, Iowa, in Dick’s memory.
