SERVICES: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hauge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. The Rev. O. Paul Hougen will be officiating. Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, is assisting the family.
DEWITT — Walter Severtsgaard, 77, of DeWitt, died Monday at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.
Pallbearers will be Melvin, Edward and Leo Macal.
He was born Nov. 22, 1929, in Winneshek County to James and Lydia Brandt Severtsgaard. He married Geraldine Zein in 1952. He married Delores Seifert Petersen on Aug. 1, 1978, in Reno, Nev.
He worked as a welder for 31 years with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works before retiring in 1987.
He lived in the Waterloo and Maquoketa before moving to DeWitt in June 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Delores; daughters, Kathy (Bob) Eckenrod and Pam (Brian) Poock, both of Waterloo; one son, David Severtsgaard of Kearns, Utah; one stepdaughter, Sherri Lueth of LeClaire; stepsons, Jerry (Cathy) Petersen of Davenport and Terry Petersen of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest Severtsgaard of Vinton and James Severtsgaard of Hampton, Ill.; and sone sister, Myrtle Macal of Decorah.
