Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Mount Carroll.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Mark Harkness officiating.

MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. — Roberta Catherine Ottens, 85, of Mount Carroll, died Thursday at her home.

She was born June 22, 1921, to William H. and Catherine E. Schofield Doornbush in Chicago. She married Stanley L. Ottens on June 30, 1945, at the home of her parents in Elmhurst, Ill.

She attended grade school in Elmhurst, graduated from York High School in 1939 and later attended business college for two years.

She worked as a nurse’s aid at Hines General Hospital and other Chicago area hospitals during World War II. She worked as a secretary for the American Gear Co. in South Chicago and later for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. In 1984, she received the Secretary of the Year Award — River City Chapter. She was employed with the Clinton Herald for seven years. She then worked for Chemplex in Clinton as a senior secretary in the maintenance department for 22 years, retiring in 1988.

She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Mount Carroll, were she was active in the Esther Circle. She taught Sunday School and was the church treasurer for 11 years.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jonathan (Kathy) Ottens of Montgomery, Ala., and Tech Sergeant Richard (Julie) Ottens of New Baltimore, Mich.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be given to the United Methodist Church in Mount Carroll.
