Visitation: Was Friday at Evans Funeral Home in Carrington, N.D.

SERVICES: Were 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington, with the Rev. Lawrence Hass officiating.

CARRINGTON, N.D. — Nick E. Richter, 94, of Carrington and formerly of Sykeston, N.D., died Dec. 5 at the Carrington Health Center, Carrington.

Burial was in St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Cemetery, Sykeston.

Pallbearers were grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were the St. Joseph’s/St. Elizabeth’s Society.

He was born Sept. 9, 1912, on the family farm near Sykeston to Ed and Mary Becker Richter. He married Alma Spitzeron Jan. 26, 1943, in Sykeston.

He attended school at Sykeston.

As a young man he went to St. Cloud and St. Paul, Minn., and worked at various jobs. He returned to Sykeston in 1941 and started farming with his brother, Sylvester. He and his wife farmed southwest of Sykeston until retirement in 1976. In 1998, they moved to Carrington.

He was a member of the Sykeston Public School Board, Supervisor of Sykeston Township and a board member of the Wells County Farmers’ Union. He had been a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church and was a past trustee, and was a member of the St. Joseph/St. Elizabeth Society. He also was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Carrington.

Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Eugene (Nancy) of Fulton, Ill., Jerry (Deborah) of Charlotte, Allen (Jan) of Fargo, N.D., Leon (Carole) of Moreno Valley, Calif., Glen (Kathy) of St. Louis, Tim (Ann) of Fargo and Paul “Chip” (Kristeen) of Sykeston; two daughters, Evelyn (Gerald) Friezen of Brookings, S.D., and Julie (Brian) Mindt of Valley City, N.D.; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leander (Rosella) of Sykeston, Sylvester of Clinton and Norbert of Sykeston; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, two brothers and one grandchild.
