Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m today at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mount Carroll.
SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. David Vidlar officiating.
THOMSON, Ill. — Floyd G. Messmer, 81, of Thomson, died Tuesday at his home.
Burial will be in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson.
He was born April 20, 1925, in Woodland Township, Carroll County, Ill., to Roy Raymond and Lillie Dorthea Barbara Rath Messmer. He married Joann I. Rockwell on Sept. 13, 1952, in the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a yardmaster for Santa Fe and the Illinois Central railroads in the Chicago Produce Terminal for more than 35 years.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve Messmer of Fairfield, Conn., John Messmer of Thomson and Paul (Perri) Messmer of Westmont, Ill.; two daughters, LeeAnn (Frank) Swan of Fulton, Ill., and Cheryl (Tim) Harridge of Morrison, Ill.; two brothers, Leroy (Betty) Messmer of Elizabeth, Ill., and Edwin (Carol) Messmer of Umpqua, Ore.; three sisters, Marcella Zink of Freeport, Ill., Blanch Frey of Rock Falls, Ill., and Arlie Smith of Savanna, Ill.; and one sister-in-law, Josephine Messmer of Mount Carroll; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
