SERVICES: A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

FULTON, Ill. — Maxine L. Wheeler, 87, of Morrison, died Monday at Mercy North Hospital.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

She was born June 16, 1919, in Morrison to Newel C. and Alice Booth Miller. She married Harrison H. Wheeler on Sept. 16, 1940, in Iowa City. He died in 1998.

She received a music education degree from Millikin University.

She taught in several schools for 30 years, including four years in music. She wrote four books plus songs for children and a jazz book for adults. She entertained the public for 30 years and gave programs on jazz highlights.

She played at the Mark of the Quad-Cities for the Heritage Progress Show and played background music for a style show on “Paula Sands Live.” She also wrote a love song and recorded it.

She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota and the Women’s Professional Music Organization.

Survivors include one son, Roger (Diane) Wheeler of Clinton; one daughter, SanDee Fawcett of California; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
