SERVICES: Private.

MORRISON, Ill. — Lawrence E. “Larry” Vrchoticky, 91, of Morrison, died Saturday at CGH Medical Center.

Interment will be in Rock Island (Ill.) National Cemetery with military honors.

He was born May 7, 1915, in Iowa City to Frank and Verona Worrell Vrchoticky.

He attended school in Coalville and Fort Dodge. He married Harriet Sissing Smith on Nov. 26, 1958, in Garden Plain, Ill. He also attended watchmaker’s school at Bradley University.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in the fall of 1942. After basic training in Arkansas, he served in the infantry. He was shipped overseas and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Oak Leaf Cluster.

He was supervisor of the security force at beef packing plants in Estherville and Fort Dodge. He opened Larry’s Jewelry Store, Fulton, Ill. He later owned several restaurants.

He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Connie Gretillat of Union; one son, Gary (Georgia) Vrchoticky of Sun City, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Sandra (Mark) Kuban of Cleveland; one stepson, Richard (Elizabeth) Smith of Albany, Ill.; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Alyce Stanek of Fort Dodge.
