Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238 of DeWitt conducting miliary rites.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
DEWITT — James Barnes Gilbert, 80, DeWitt, died Thursday at Bettendorf Health Care Center.
Interment will be in Rock Island (Ill.) National Cemetery.
He was born May 17, 1926, in Scranton to George E. and Leta Barnes Gilbert. He married Betty Marie Knudson on May 8, 1949, at United Lutheran Church, Des Moines. She died in 1977.
He attended college for several years.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He worked as a branch manager for National Cash Register, Cedar Rapids, until retirement.
He moved to DeWitt in 1989.
Survivors include three sons, David (Becky) Gilbert of Bettendorf, John Gilbert (special friend, Saraiah Burgin) of Moline, Ill., and Mark Gilbert of Des Moines; two grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Hufford of Des Moines.
Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice or Bettendorf Health Care Center.
