Marguerite F. “Peggy” Johnson

Marguerite F. “Peggy” Johnson, age 81 of Clinton, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006 at her home surrounded by her family. Honoring Peggy’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held Saturday 11:00 AM at Lyons United Methodist Church, Clinton. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held at the church. Her ashes will be interred at a later date. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations given to Animal Birth Control of Clinton.

Peggy was born on May 28, 1925 in Sommerville, MA, the daughter of Charles and Jean (King) Haker. She eloped with Gunners Mate Robert D. Johnson on Jan. 13, 1945 in New York City; he died in 1994. After the war, they relocated to Minnesota to start their own family, eventually moving to Clinton, IA. Peggy retired from A.C. Nielsen Company in Clinton after 21 years of service. During her retirement Peggy enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy!, reading, gardening, and cooking for her family.

Peggy is survived by her two sons, Robert C. (Cindy) Johnson of Charlotte, IA and Jon (Cindy) Johnson of Andover, IA; her two daughters, Mrs. Sheila (John) Gronemann of Minneapolis, MN and Martha “Marti” Young of Clinton; 10 special grandchildren, Rob and Susan Gronemann, Kelly and Joey Young, Megan, Isaac, and Hannah Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Liz and Michelle Harris; seven great grandchildren; five sisters, two brothers, and her three cherished cats. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother.
