Robert J. “Bob” Byers

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Dec. 28, at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, Jackson, with the Rev. Nate Sokol officiating. Desnoyer Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

JACKSON, Mich. — Robert J. “Bob” Byers, 82, of Jackson, died Oct. 28.

His body will be cremated.

Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Clinton. He married Jeanne Mooney in February of 1952.

He attended the University of Iowa. After his military service, he returned to the University of Iowa and completed his juris doctorate degree in law.

After his freshman year in college, he joined the U.S. Army. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and Philippine Islands. He later worked with General MacArthur’s staff and traveled with the U.S. Army to Japan after the war.

He practiced law as a private attorney for several years in Clinton. He opened a practice with David Schaff. In the late 1950s, he and his wife moved to Jackson where he worked as a corporate attorney with CMS Energy, formerly Consumers Power, until his retirement.

He was a longtime member of the Jackson Country Club

Survivors include one daughter, Tracy “Trace” (Chris) Byers Bacon of Arizona; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fisher House Foundation Inc., which gives aid to families of sick and injured U.S. soldiers, 1401 Rockville Pike, Suite 600, Rockville, MD 20852 or the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund, Box 3968, Gaithersburg, MD 20885-3968.
