Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Revs. Ruth Ann Scott and Merle and Judy Paulsen, pastors of Baldwin/Monmouth Faith United Methodist Church, officiating.

BALDWIN — Everett C. Shannon, 88, of Baldwin, died Wednesday at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin, where full military rites will be conducted by Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O‚Connor-Regenwether and Andrew AMVETS Post 62.

He was born May 12, 1918, in Carlisle, Ky., to John L. and Amanda Hopkins Shannon. He was raised in Paris, Ky. He married Beulah Scott on Jan. 26, 1946, in Paris.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1941 until being honorably discharged in 1945.

He and his wife lived in Paris for three years. He worked in the stockyards and did odds jobs until they moved to Iowa where he did timber cutting and worked with Clinton Engines, Maquoketa. He also was the custodian at Baldwin School. After it closed, he worked as custodian at Maquoketa Middle School before retiring after 18 years.

He was a member of the Baldwin/Monmouth Faith United Methodist Church, Royal Neighbors of America, Wapsi Ringers Horseshoe League in Lost Nation and was active on the Baldwin Fire Department. He also served as a Baldwin City Council member and umpired many softball games. He played semi-professional baseball in Kentucky, as well as with the Maquoketa Bears and Lost Nation Legion.

Survivors include his wife; children, Sandra Anderson of San Pablo, Calif., Peggy Koranda of Lees Summit, Mo., and Ida Mae (Robert) Walters of West Burlington; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Stella Mae Ellis of Lexington, Ky., and Letha Shepherd of Warsaw, Ind.

An Everett C. Shannon Memorial Fund has been established.
