Duane Smith

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday at the Thomson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Judd officiating.

THOMSON, Ill. — Duane Smith, 70, of Thomson, died Thursday at Mercy North Hospital, Clinton.

Burial will be in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson.

He was born Oct. 4, 1936, in Thomson, to Donald and Dora Eacker Smith. He married Barbara Drexler in Clinton on Oct. 31, 1964. She died in 1976. On June 11, 1977, he married Shirley Dusheck in Clinton.

He graduated from Thomson High School in 1955.

He was employed at International Paper, Clinton, for 39 years, retiring in 1998. He later worked as a caretaker of 54 apartments in four communities and also donated his time doing odd jobs for the elderly and anyone in need.

Memorials can be given in his name to fight breast cancer.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Denise (Steve) Horner of Wilton, Kathy (Michael) Proctor of LaVerkin, Utah, and Sherami Kenworthy of Clinton; a son, Scott (Tara) Smith of Clinton; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and both parents.

Death date: Nov. 9, 2006.
