Visitation: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Mark Harkness, pastor of Mount Carroll United Methodist Church, will be officiating.

MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. — Thomas W. Fritz, 89, of Mount Carroll, died Friday at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll.

He was born March 12, 1917, in Freedom Township, Ill., to Ward and Ethel Williamson Fritz. He married F. Virginia Moore on May 2, 1942.

He graduated from Mount Carroll High School in 1935.

He was a softball pitcher. He also was an umpire for many local baseball and softball games.

He was a charter member of the Mount Carroll Lion’s Club. As a Lion’s Club member, he was involved in the acquisition of land that was later donated to the Mount Carroll School District for its athletic field.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jerry (Lynne) Fritz of Galesburg, Ill., James (Mickey) Fritz of Shannon, Ill., Jack Fritz of Mount Carroll and Larry (Christy) Fritz of Mount Carroll; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ronald Fritz of Mount Carroll.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home or Freeport (Ill.) Health Network Hospice.
