Mary Frances Burden Byam

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary service at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Gibson Funeral Home, Erie.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Erie.

ERIE, Ill. — Mary Frances Burden Byam, 92, of Erie, died Thursday at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Ill.

Burial will be in Erie Cemetery,

She was born Aug. 4, 1914, in Deer Grove, Ill., to Vincent R. and Frances Devine Burden. She married Wayne G. Byam on Jan. 1, 1943, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fulton, Ill. He died in 1984.

She graduated from St. Catherine of Sienna High School, Chicago, and the Metropolitan Business College, Chicago.

After her graduation she was employed by the U.S. government issuing Social Security numbers, She then worked under the Selective Service System at the Whiteside County Local Board No. 1 in Fulton. She later was a legal secretary for Earl Scott, Erie, and most recently for Stephen Burns, Erie.

She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Erie, and a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Neil) Earl, Erie; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Byam of Erie; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Aulls of Mount Morris, Ill.; and a brother, James Burden of Rock Island, Ill.

A memorial fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by a son, two grandsons, a sister and two brothers.

Death date: Nov. 9, 2006
