Gerald V. Burke

Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville, with the Rev. Scott LaMaster officiating.

DEWITT — Gerald V. Burke, 74, died Thursday at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.

Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church cemetery, Petersville.

Pallbearers will be Matthew, Jason, Donnie and Michael Burke, and Steve and Joe Wendel.

He was born Feb. 14, 1932, in Colome, S.D., to Martin and Susan McClintock Burke.

He was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He farmed in the Welton and Green Island area for many years.

He was a former member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Sabula and also Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Petersville. He was a member of Local 150 Construction Union, Rock Island, Ill.

Survivors include his daughters, Theresa Burke of Zearing and Mary Jo Thomas of Clinton, Ill.; his sons, Patrick Burke of Clinton and Michael Joseph Burke, of San Francisco; five grandchildren; sisters, Mary Clare Wendel of Bryant, Sister Mary Francis OSF of Clinton, Ruth Burke of Tuckerton, N.J., and Sister Donna Burke OSF of Jesup; brothers, Steve (Darlene) Burke of Charlotte, Jim (Mauarita) Burke of DeWitt, Jack (Mary Ann) Burke of Yulee, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Jean Burke of Charlotte.
