John Hager

Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

ERIE, Ill. — John H. Hager, 45 of Erie, died Friday, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Burial will be at Cordova (Ill.) Cemetery.

He was born June 4, 1961, in Charleston, W.Va., to Arlan and Janet Halstead Hager. He married Julie Piatt on March 14, 1981 in Cordova.

He retired from the U.S. Navy in April 2003 after serving for 24 years.

He was employed with Archer Daniels Midland, Clinton.

He was a member of the Cordova American Legion, the U.S. Navy Chief’s Association and First Baptist Church, Cordova.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter Jessica (Aaron) Scranton of San Diego; a son, John of Erie; two grandchildren; three brothers, Curtis of Charleston, Joseph of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Tony, Wichita, Kan.; and his grandmother, Flossie Townsend of Bloomingrose, W.Va.

A memorial fund has been established.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
