Sister Agnes Clare Henderson, OSF

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Canticle, 841 13th Ave. North, third floor. Scripture service at 6:30 p.m. with a rosary at 4 p.m.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday at the Canticle Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Hennen officiating.

CLINTON — Sister Agnes Clare Henderson, OSF, 96, of the Alverno Health Care Facility, died Thursday.

Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be relatives, friends and members of the Sisters of St. Francis.

She was born June 28, 1910, in Canton, Mo., to James and Anna Bader Henderson.

She attended Plano Elementary School, Lewis County, Mo. She graduated from St. Patrick M.S., St. Patrick, Mo. She received an associate’s degree from Mount St. Clare College and a B.A. from St. Ambrose College. She attended DePaul University and St. Xavier University, both in Chicago. She received teaching certificates in Iowa and Illinois. She received nursing certification in Iowa and Illinois.

She joined the Sisters of St. Francis on July 29, 1931. Her final vows were taken June 13, 1937.

She worked for 37 years in teaching and nursing. She taught intermediate grades in Vail and Victor before entering nurse’s training at St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Macomb, Ill. She did further study at St. Mary’s Hospital School, Quincy, Ill. She served for 10 years at St. Francis Hospital. In 1952, she resumed teaching at St. Boniface School, Clinton. She also taught in Lourdes, Varina, Perry, Danbury and Fonda. She taught in Chicago and Oak Lawn, Ill. She retired to the Mount St. Clare Convent in 1974. She assisted for several years with the elementary tutoring program.

She lived at The Canticle from 1997 until moving to the Alverno Health Care Facility in 2002.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
