CLINTON — Irene L. Nelson, 92, of Clinton, died Tuesday at her home.

Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

She was born June 5, 1914, in Emerson, Ill., to Henry and Hattie Schwitters Buyers. She married Edward Nelson on Aug. 3, 1932, in Sterling, Ill. He died in 1984.

She graduated from Sterling High School in 1932.

She was associated with Nelson Auto Electric, Clinton, for more than 40 years until retiring in 1998.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Clinton Chapter 65, past matron of Lyons Chapter 130, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Rebekah Lodge, United Commercial Travelers, Clinton County Historical Society, Clinton Humane Society and Women of the Moose.

Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Rae Backlund of Bulverde, Texas; two sons, John (Jo) Nelson and Richard (Diane) Nelson, both of Clinton; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Burn Hospital, Diabetes Association, Zion Lutheran Church or Mercy Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandchild, six brothers and three sisters.
