SERVICES: Were Oct. 17 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour, with the Rev. Todd Goodson officiating.

SEYMOUR, Ind. — Dr. Marvin F. Klaes, 83, of Seymour, died Oct. 13 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

He was born April 4, 1923, in Clinton to Charles L. and Julia Rutledge Klaes. He married Mary E. Vance on Aug. 16, 1946. She died in 2001. He then married Lena Couch-Hawn on Nov. 6, 2004, in Seymour.

He was a 1948 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in England and Japan.

He was an original member of the teaching staff of the Gonstead Clinic, Mount Horeb, Wis. He practiced chiropractic in Seymour from 1957 until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour. He was a grand knight, district deputy and faithful navigator of the Knights of Columbus. He was elected delegate of the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council National Convention. He also was a member of Seymour Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He was president of the Indiana Bureau of Chiropractic, president of the Indiana Chiropractic Association and was named Chiropractor of the Year in 1973. He also was president of the International Chiropractic Association of Indiana. He served as the Indiana representative to the International Chiropractic Association. He was elected two terms as chairman of the assembly and elected to two terms as a member of ICA’s Board of Control. He was a fellow of the ICA and received the ICA’s Meritorious Award.

He was a multi-engine instrument rated private pilot. He was a 40-year licensed extra class amateur radio operator.

He was president of the Amateur Radio Chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association was national director of the FMCA.

He was a fellow of the Palmer Academy of Chiropractic. He received the D.D. Palmer Scientific Award and Doctor of Humanities.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Kathy (Ned) Clark of Dayton, Ohio, Julie (Joe) Bradley of Brownstown, Ind., Dr. Marian (George) Klaes-Lanham of Seymour and Patricia (Phil) Hurley of Indianapolis; three sons, Dr. Chris (Dianne) Klaes of Brownstown, Bill (Julie) Klaes of Seymour and Don Klaes of Seymour; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepsister, Berniece Witt.

Memorials may be given to the Klaes St. Ambrose Educational Fund.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one daughter and one brother.
