Fred “Dud” Lee Venable Jr.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. David Brownfield will be officiating.

GRAND MOUND — Fred “Dud” Lee Venable Jr., 76, of Grand Mound, died Monday at his home.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Chicago to Fred and Melba Venable Sr. He married Marlene Foley on Sept. 3, 1960, in Davenport.

He owned and operated Fred’s DX Service Station, Bettendorf, for a number of years. He then worked with Caterpillar, Mount Joy, as a mechanic for 20 years until retiring.

Survivors include three sons, Fred Venable III of East Moline, Ill., Mike (DorRae) Venable of DeWitt and Tim Venable of Los Angeles; two daughters, Michele Venable of Hollywood, Fla., and Marta Nessl of Davie, Fla.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Schumann and Merle Perlenfein, both of Davenport; and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Venable of DeWitt.
