Dr. Alan L. Beardslee

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sue Eades officiating. Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CLINTON — Dr. Alan L. Beardslee, 84, of Clinton, died Sunday at the Alverno Healthcare Facility.

Burial will be at a later date in Scranton Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Chicago to Alfonse and Mary Gates Beardslee. He married Lois Beals. She preceded him in death. He later married Apryl Pauline May on Oct. 6, 1990, in Clinton.

He and his family moved to Manchester in 1935. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1939 and the University of Iowa School of Dentistry in 1952.

He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in England and France where he flew C47’s and pulled gliders of paratroopers with the 73rd Troop Carrier Squadron.

He practiced dentistry in Jefferson from 1952 to 1962 and then moved to Clinton where he practiced in Clinton and in the Lyons district until 1991.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Rotary International, Chicago Dental Society, Clinton Country Club and was a lifetime member of the Iowa Dental Association. He and his first wife also were very active with the Democratic Party.

Survivors include his wife, Apryl of Clinton; one stepdaughter, Rebecca (Michael) O’Donnell of Houston; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and one sister.
