Carol Faye Soenksen

Carol Faye Soenksen, 75, of Clinton, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City. Cremation services were provided by Lensing Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Iowa City. As per her wishes, a private Irish wake was held by her children.

She was born July 16, 1931, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Charles and Katherine Merkel Nixon. She married John L. Gilligan on February 11, 1950. She was remarried to Milo G. Soenksen on June 26, 1965. Carol lived in the Goose Lake area for many years before moving to Clinton.

She graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1949. She was a homemaker, and had worked part-time in sales for Swiss Colony. She was an avid reader that loved to share the gift of words with family and friends. Carol enjoyed a good joke, and was most passionate about her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were often captured by the photos she loved to take of them.

Survivors include seven daughters, Cheryl (Robert) McNulty of Clinton, Patricia (Bill) Barmettler of Chehalis, WA, Michele (Kevin) Johnson of Kenosha, WI, Kathy (Michael) Loftin of Ames, IA, Linda ( Joe) Zarate of Leander, TX, Tracy (Steve) Dickey of Charlotte, IA, and Carla (Tony) Brockshus of Huxley, IA; one son, Allan (Joy) Soenksen of Goose Lake, IA; eighteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three nieces, and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother.
