Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lahey Funeral Home, Lost Nation.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lost Nation, with the Rev. Keith Larson and Pastoral Associate Barbara Tobiason officiating.

LOST NATION — David D. Clapp, 78, of Lost Nation, died Tuesday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Pallbearers will be Brian and Jason Clapp, Katie and Chris Snyder, Stacia Haro and Adam and Nick Richardson.

Burial will be held in Lost Nation Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Lost Nation to James and Winifred Miller Clapp. He married Joan Mohl on June 1, 1947, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation.

He was a 1946 graduate of Lost Nation High School.

He farmed for 40 years and sold Farm Bureau insurance in Clinton County for 32 years, retiring in 1998.

He was a charter member of the Lost Nation Lions Club and received its Warren Coleman Honorary Award for dedicated service in Lionism. For several years he helped lead the blood drive. He also was a member and past president of the Lost Nation Booster Club and was the current president of the Lost Nation Cemetery Association. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lost Nation and was a past Sunday school teacher and past council member.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John (Sally) Clapp of Mesa, Ariz.; three daughters, Sue (Roger) Kuhl of Rio Verde, Ariz., Julie (Mark) Richardson of Clinton and Kathy (Kirk) Snyder of Lost Nation; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, James (Pat) Clapp of DeWitt, two sisters, Marjorie (Kenneth) Harden of Bettendorf and Dorothy Nabb of Monmouth, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Gary (Alice) Mohl, Maquoketa.

Memorials are preferred.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two granddaughters, a brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and his mother and father-in-law.
