John W. Watters, 81 of Petersville, died Monday, October 9, 2006, at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque, following an extended illness.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2006, at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Petersville, with the Rev. Scott LeMaster officiating.
Burial will be held in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Petersville.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where a vigil service will be held at 5:00 p.m. and a rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 9:00 am until service time at Immaculate Conception Church in Petersville. Memorials are preferred.
John was born on February 27, 1925 in Petersville, Iowa, son of William and Gertrude (Costello) Watters. He married Rosemary H. Zaug on March 2, 1965 at the Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque, Iowa. She died on April 2, 2005.
He farmed all of his life in the Petersville area. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville, and the Clinton County Cattlemans Association. He enjoyed gathering information on genealogy, history of Petersville and loved to go on drives to see the countryside. John enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and was proud of his Irish Heritage.
He is survived by two daughters, Maureen (Scott) Strobl, Aurora, Illinois and Amy (Doug) Watters-Moeller, Dubuque; one son, Shawn (Karla) Watters, DeWitt; 3 grandsons, Michael Charles Strobl, Matthew John Watters and Ryan James Watters; a sister-in-law, Justine Herzog, Dubuque, and three brothers-in-law, Leo (Evelyn) Zaug, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Clifford (Joyce) Zaug, Davenport, and Ray Zaug, Fairfax, CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a daughter, Molly in infancy, and a sister, Viola O’Meara.
