SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa with the Rev. Gerald Gjerde officiating.
MAQUOKETA — William C. “Bill” Bowen,” 66, of Maquoketa, died Thursday at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, in Davenport.
Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.
He was born Jan. 25, 1940, in Milbank, S.D., to Claude L. Bowen and Grace Marie Westall Bowen. He married Peggy Ann Lehman on Oct. 9, 1993.
He was a 1958 graduate of Ames High School.
He began his career in high school working for Fareway Stores. He eventually became manager of the meat department, first in Eagle Grove for two years. In 1982, he moved to Maquoketa, where he worked until retiring in 2004. He had been with Fareway Stores for more than 45 years.
Survivors include his wife of Maquoketa; children, John Bowen of Ames, Denise (David) Kressin of Plano, Texas, Sandra Bullock of Rock Island, Ill., Maggie Hertensen of Hiawatha, Sarah Hertensen of Altoona, and Katie (Luke) Thole of Martelle; three grandsons; brothers, Harold (Lois) Bowen of Lakewood, Calif., and Robert (Judy) Bowen of Sioux City; sisters, Lois (Daryl) Boerger of Watertown, S.D., Barbara (Tom) Spolar of Yakima, Wash., Nancy Skid of Omaha, Neb., and Shirley (Curt) Petersen of Bowling Green, Mo.
A William C. “Bill” Bowen Memorial Fund has been established.
