CLINTON — John F. Townsend, 82, of Clinton, died Saturday at Bluff Terrace Nursing Facility, Clinton.
He was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Clinton to Harvey and Edythe Kime Townsend. He married Natalie Kistler on Oct. 8, 1946 in Clinton. She died in 2001.
He was a 1942 graduate of Clinton High School.
He served in U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946.
He was the manager of Machael Oil Co., Clinton, for 30 years. He later owned and operated Downtown Suncol and the Gas Shoppe on Bluff Boulevard.
He was a member of Clinton Church of Christ, Emulation Masonic Lodge 255, KAABA Shrine, Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, Clinton High 12 Club, president of the Clinton Baseball Club in the 1960s and 1957 president of the Clinton Jaycees.
Survivors include three daughters, Marliee (Vance) Wade of Clinton, Michele Padilla of Lancaster, Calif., and Margret (Paul) Struve of Clinton; and 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and one sister.
