SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday at Wyoming United Methodist Church with Shepherd Karmen Jamison officiating.
WYOMING, Iowa — Roy L. Tompkins, 84, of Wyoming, died Wednesday at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chauncey and Lyle Tompkins, William Mommsen, Steven Wherry, Mark Willey and Bob Hickle.
He was born June 26, 1922, in Jones County to Lyle C. and Bernice Lewis Tompkins. He married Lillian Anna Gabel on Nov. 23, 1949, in Maquoketa. She died in 1981.
He graduated from Wyoming High School in 1940.
He farmed in the Wyoming area before retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Wyoming United Methodist Church, the REC and Farm Bureau. He was past fair board president and member of the Wyoming Fair Association. He was a 4-H leader with the Wyoming Pioneers for many years.
Survivors include six children, Lyle (Wendy) Tompkins of Clarence, Mary (William) Mommsen of Goose Lake, Roanne (Mark) Willey of Center Junction, Beverley, (Bob) Hickle of Blue Grass and Valerie (Steven) Wherry and Chauncey (Debra) Tompkins, both of Wyoming; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Ann Irving of Mattoon, Ill.; and two sisters-in-law, Adrianne Gabel and Alvina (Louis) Anderson, both of Clinton.
