SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Marcia Kilpatrick, pastor of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Maquoketa, officiating.
MAQUOKETA — Virginia A. Goodenow, 79, of Maquoketa, died Tuesday at her home.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.
She was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Baltimore to Herbert Wheeler and Sara Gray Wheeler. She married Darral E. “Goody” Goodenow on July 12, 1952, in Baltimore. He died in 2003.
She graduated from a Catholic high school in Baltimore.
She was a bank teller in Maryland. When she moved to Maquoketa, she worked at Hurstville Grocery and Tavern for a couple of years. She also was a homemaker.
She was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Maquoketa, and participated in St. Anne’s Guild, Liturgy and Altar Guild. She was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include one brother- and sister-in-law, Frank (Jane) Goodenow of Maquoketa; one sister- and brother-in-law, Shirley (Dave) Burns of Maquoketa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.
