Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Petersville, where a Scripture vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, is in charge of arrangements.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with The Most Rev. William E. Franklin, D.D., Bishop, Davenport Diocese, officiating.

CHARLOTTE — The Rev. Edward A. Botkin, 65, of Charlotte, died Sunday at his home.

Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Petersville.

Pallbearers will be Marty McDermott, Tom Gannon, Gerry Farrell, Gene Banowetz, Brian Burken and Tom Sterk.

He was born May 10, 1941, in Maquoketa to Grace Mary McGinn and Charles John Botkin.

He graduated from Assumption High School in Davenport in 1959. He graduated from St. Ambrose University in 1969.

He served in the U.S. Army for three years.

He was ordained in the Davenport Diocese on May 26, 1973. He earned a licentiate in sacred theology from the Catholic University of America and a licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome, Italy.

He was associate pastor of St. Mary’s, Fort Madison, from June 1975 to May 1976. He was pastor of St. Joseph’s, Sugar Creek, from September 1981 to September 1990. He was pastor of Immaculate Conception, Petersville, from March 1982 to June. He also was pastor of St. Patrick’s, Delmar, and St. Anne’s, Welton, since October 1992 to the present. He was a full-time assistant professor of Scripture and Biblical languages at St. Ambrose University, Davenport, since August 1980.

Survivors include two brothers, John (Phyllis) Botkin of Marion and Chuck (Sue) Botkin of Princeton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
