Hiram M. “Mac” Heysinger Jr.

Hiram M. “Mac” Heysinger, Jr., a former longtime Davenport resident, died Friday, August 25, 2006, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Mac’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 1st, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa, or the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer.

Hiram McAllister Heysinger, Jr. was born August 10, 1923 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Hiram M. Heysinger Sr. and Carrie F. (Alger) Heysinger. Following his graduation from Davenport High School, Mac earned an engineering degree from Iowa State University. He also served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during WWII.

On December 15, 1950, Mac was united in marriage to Marilyn Ann Stringer in Davenport.

Marilyn preceded him in death June 2, 1991.

Mr. Heysinger was an Electrical Contractor and was the former owner of Electric Service of Clinton, Iowa. Over the years, he involved each of his kids in various aspects of the family business. Following Mac’s retirement in 1986, his son Steve acquired the business which he continues to operate today.

Mac was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Davenport Rotary, a member of the National Electrical Contractors’ Association (NECA), and a lifetime member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Mac’s interests included: photography; woodworking; electronics; classical music; writing; working in the yard; being with family and friends; and ice cream.

Survivors include his second wife, Iris Rose Duncan of Salisbury, MD; daughters, Dian Heysinger of LeClaire, Iowa and Carol A. DePorter of Davenport, Iowa; a son, Steven M. Heysinger (Kati) of Clinton, Iowa; three grandchildren: Beth Thompson, Chris Mullen, and Greg Heysinger; and two great-grandchildren: Emilee Ann and Dominic.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, Marilyn, Mac was preceded in death by a brother, Robert F. Heysinger.
