Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ss. Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, is assisting the family with arrangements.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Rev. H. Robert Harness will be officiating.

GRAND MOUND — Ray Nugent, 80, of Grand Mound, died Sunday at Wheatland Manor.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

He was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Grand Mound to Michael and Margaret Megee Nugent.

He graduated from Grand Mound High School in 1942 and attended the University of Iowa.

He married Mavis Puck on June 26, 1948. She died in 1959. He then married Helen Pfannenstiel McDonnell on Aug. 3, 1963. The couple lived in Grand Mound.

He was a member of Ss. Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, and was treasurer of its Holy Name Society. He also was active in the Grand Mound Ball Club, president of the Grand Mound Community Center Board and was a caller for the Grand Mound Bingo Association.

He retired in 1989 from Kartridg Pak after 26 years of service.

Survivors include his wife; eight daughters and 10 sons, Karen (Brian) Johnson of Waterloo, Patricia (Gunter) Gebhardt of Berlin, Germany, Judith Rupp of Wheaton, Ill., Kay (John) Grillot of Washington, Ill., Ann (Jason) Witt of Cumming, Ga., Jean (William) Wright of League City, Texas, Margaret (Andrew) Beierwaltes of Niles, Ill., Mary Therese (John) Eldracher of Yale, Mich., Michael (Nancy) Nugent of Chesterfield, Mo., Paul (Lana) Nugent of Morrison, Ill., LeRoy (Nancy) McDonnell of Verona, Wis., Dale (Sheri) Nugent of Davenport, Terence (JoAnn) McDonnell of Oxford Junction, John (Joellyn) McDonnell of DeWitt, William (Elizabeth) McDonnell of LaGrange, Ill., Joseph (Carmen) Nugent of Iowa City, Daniel (Holly) Nugent of North Liberty and James (Jennifer) Nugent of Peoria, Ariz.; one foster son, Tom Waters; 65 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Franck of Moline, Ill., and Jean Robaidek of Oregon, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, one son, his parents, four grandchildren, one brother and four sisters.
