Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Gjerde, pastor of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, officiating.

MAQUOKETA — Alvin F. Petersen, 88, of Maquoketa, died Thursday at his home.

Cremation rites will take place following the visitation. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Delmar.

He was born July 10, 1918, in Maquoketa to Jens and Meta Dorah C. Stoll Petersen. He married Charline R. Bailey on Oct. 30, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo.

He was educated in Maquoketa rural schools.

He was a farmer. Following retirement, he worked as a carpenter for several years.

He moved to Maquoketa in 2005.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, and the Jackson County Farm Bureau. He served on the Jackson County Extension Board and as a Maquoketa Township trustee. He also served on the ASCS Committee.

Survivors include his wife; children, Gary (Joan) Petersen of Maquoketa, Wayne (Patricia) Petersen of Maquoketa and Judy (Ken) Keltner of Olathe, Kan.; sisters, Gertrude Janette of Vinton and Elsie Kokemueller of Davenport; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one son-in-law.
