Mary Charlene Murphy

VERNON HILLS, Ill. — Mary Charlene Murphy, 69, of Vernon Hills, died Aug. 1 at her family’s home in Lake Forest, Ill.

She was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Clinton to Evelyn and Charles Rupert. She married Arthur Murphy in Clinton in 1959.

She attended St. Mary’s Grade School, St. Mary’s High School and Mount St. Clare College, Clinton, before attending the University of Iowa.

She taught at several Catholic grade schools before moving to Lake Forest. She was a substitute teacher, as well as religious educator. She worked with Robertsons, Lake Forest, managing the men’s department for many years. She then moved worked with The Northern Trust Co., Chicago. She received Receptionist of the Year Award eight years in a row. She also received the Diversity Medallion Award in 2003. She was the lobby receptionist later. She retired in 2003.

Survivors include her children, Brent Murphy, Sean (Denise) Murphy and Erin (Justin) Foley, all of Lake Forest, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and one sister, Jacqueline (Mel) Steffey of Clinton.
